Under the Oak Tree – Chapter 3 Summary
A deep, almost scholarly voice echoed in the small classroom: “Jason, tell us about the chronicles right after the Dark Ages began.”.
In the beginning of Under the Oak Tree chapter 3 , the 13-year-old boy stood up from his chair with a straight back facing the front without looking anywhere in particular as he narrated the events from 300 years ago.
“It was 300 years ago that foreign races and wild beasts invaded because of the outbreaks of mana that took place at that time
For some unknown reason, a mana outbreak ripped apart other plans linking them with Argos.
Humanity was unaware that alien races had invaded in the beginning.
As they watched the mysterious energy explosion and the resulting blood-red cracks with landscapes behind them, they were still shocked.
Eventually, news about the appearance of tall, bulky and humanoid-like creatures with huge wings, ravenlike heads, and medieval-looking weapons overshadowed the explosion of the overly compressed “mana” ball with the invasion of the unknown energy we now call [Mana] inside every creature, from the planet down.
Humanity was not prepared to fight back against an invasion of extremely terrifying creatures and suffered massive losses as a result.
Argos wasn’t the only planet invadedintelligent races, and many of those races transformed the planet into a battlefield, leaving humanity as cannon fodder between them.
Humanity tried to defend itself, but its weapons were unusable against these foreign races, as they protected themselves with a membrane of mana.
The mana membrane deflected bullets and made bombing ineffective against them.
A few thousand years ago, humanity suffered and had to retreat to the smallest continent on Argos, called Canir, with an Archipelago of around 40 small islands surrounding it.
Humans live in Canir, where there are the fewest permanent rifts, and fortunately, no intelligent bipedal race planes connect with Argos due to the permanent rift.
The only permanent rifts were those with beasts that invaded Argos quite often due to their wild instincts and desire to kill humans.
Even though these powerful beasts had everything on their side, they continued their attack, not caring about the losses caused to humanity and even putting themselves at risk from time to time.
Meanwhile, the Archipelagos were experiencing more permanent rifts and an overpopulation of beasts.
Their existences did not receive much support from the main continent, since nobody was able to take them on directly.
The human race lost more than 90% of its population and did not possess any effective means of defending itself other than using fire against fire.
It took them a long time, but after years of experimenting and a lot of luck, humanity was able to handle mana more easily.
They could not control elements as they saw other races using mana as their primary weapon.
Some could manipulate earth, while others could control water as if it were an extension of their arms.
The human body does not possess an innate element that could be used to manipulate mana.
This was more of a blessing than a curse.
It may have been luck or just destiny, but a young and courageous or more likely naive teenager saved a cub from getting killedan invading beast.
